Foresters Score Comeback Victory at Wheaton

Trailing 4-2 against Wheaton College, the Lake Forest College women's tennis team earned the final three points of the match to post its first victory of the season. The match was played at Centre Court Athletic Club in Hanover Park, Illinois.

Forester senior Julie Lord was at least partly responsible for both of her team's first two points. She teamed up with classmate Tyranny Miller to double up their opponents 8-4 at #1 doubles. Lord also prevailed at the top of the singles lineup, defeating the Thunder's best 6-3, 6-1.

With victories at the other two doubles positions and at #2 and #4 singles, Wheaton was one more point away from clinching the match. However, Lake Forest freshman Margaret Bugnacki finished off a 6-2, 6-4 triumph at #5 and the visitors tied the score when senior Emma Wang edged out her counterpart at #3 by a score of 6-3, 3-6, (10-8). That left the match in the hands of the #6 singles players and, after dropping the first set 6-1, the Foresters' Natalia Leite won the tiebreaker 7-5 to take the second. Another third set super tiebreaker victory, this time 11-9, gave Lake Forest Interim Head Coach Scot Reinhart his first career victory.

The Foresters are now 1-1 on the young season and is scheduled to begin Midwest Conference play at Cornell College on Saturday, April 17.
