Juniors Tyranny Miller and Grace Gould were each 4-0 on the day as the Foresters began the year with an 8-1 victory over Illinois Institute of Technology and a 6-3 triumph over Edgewood College at home on Saturday.

Miller and Gould earned the team's first points of the day with an 8-3 win at #3 doubles against Illinois Tech. Sophomore Tebatso Duba and junior Emma Wang prevailed by the same score at #2 and the home team took a 2-1 lead into singles play.

Wang did not lose a game in the first set and took the second 6-1 at #4 singles to increase the Forester lead to 3-1. Junior Julie Lord posted a 6-1, 6-3 victory at the top of the lineup and senior Leeza Bodnar's 7-5, 6-4 triumph at #3 accounted for the match-clinching point. Lake Forest added three more wins, Miller 6-1, 6-2 at #5, Duba 6-4, 7-5 at #2, and Gould 6-1 in both sets at #6.

It was also the season opener for Illinois Tech.

The Foresters came out on top in two of the three doubles matches again against Edgewood, which won a pair of contests to start 2019 on Friday. Lord and Bodnar rolled to an 8-1 victory at #1 while Miller and Gould nearly matched them with an 8-2 final at #3.

Lake Forest's singles lineup was the same as earlier in the day and Gould was the first to finish, defeating her counterpart 6-1, 6-2. Lord prevailed 6-2, 6-4 at #1 and Miller posted the same set scores in reverse order to clinch the team's victory. Wang won the final match of the day 6-2, 6-1.

The Foresters will start Midwest Conference play next weekend, beginning at Monmouth College Saturday morning at 9:00. The team will then make the trip to Illinois College for a 3:00 p.m. start before taking on Knox College Sunday at 9:00 a.m.
