Senior Allison Watts won twice and Lake Forest rolled to a 5-1 victory over Luther College Friday in the opening round of the 2019 NCAA Division III Tournament.

Watts and sophomore Tyranny Miller accounted for the first point of the match with an 8-2 victory at #2 doubles. After the Norse earned what turned out to be their only point of the match at #1, freshman Tebatso Duba and sophomore Emma Wang regained the lead for Lake Forest by edging out their counterparts 8-6 at #3.

The Foresters won the first set at five of the six positions in the singles lineup. Freshman Katie Wegrecki quickly finished off a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at #6 and Watts prevailed by the same score at #2. Sophomore Julie Lord then closed out a 6-3, 6-2 triumph at the top of the lineup to clinch the win for Lake Forest.

It was the first NCAA Tournament match in the history of the Foresters women's tennis program and the 13th-ranked team in the Central Region team improved to 22-3 on the season. Luther finished the year at 15-10.

Lake Forest's second round opponent will be the University of Chicago, the region's top-ranked team. Their contest is scheduled to begin Saturday afternoon at 2:00.
