Foresters Narrowly Defeated by Augustana

Sophomores Julie Lord and Emma Wang posted come-from-behind victories in singles but Lake Forest was edged out 5-4 by visiting Augustana College on Sunday. The match was played indoors at the Racquet Club of Lake Bluff.

The Vikings came out on top in all three doubles matches, including a tiebreaker win at #3.

Forester freshman Katie Wegrecki put her team on the board with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph at #6 singles. After dropping the first set 6-4, Wang took the second and third by the same 6-2 score at #5. The victory was the 20th without a loss in singles this season for Wang, whose program record winning streak that dates back to last year now stands at 22 matches. Lord was defeated 6-2 in the opening set before prevailing 6-4 in the second and third against the top player from Augustana, tying the match 3-3. The Vikings, however, earned the points at #2 and #3 to clinch the victory. Lake Forest junior Leeza Bodnar posted a 6-2, 6-4 victory at #4 to close out the contest.

Both teams won nine sets and Lake Forest took 85 games to Augustana's 84 in the contest.

The kiss dropped the Foresters' record on the season to 14-3 while the Vikings improved to 13-2.

Lake Forest will host North Central College, the team's second consecutive opponent from the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, Friday evening at 6:00 at the Racquet Club of Lake Bluff.
