Freshman Tebatso Duba and Emma Wang each won twice as Lake Forest started its Spring Break trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina, Sunday with a 7-2 victory over Washington College.
Duba and Wang doubled up their opponents 8-4 at #3 doubles to give the Foresters the early lead. The other two doubles matches were decided by tiebreakers with Washington coming out on top at #1 and Lake Forest senior Allison Watts and sophomore Tyranny Miller prevailing 8-7 (7-2) at #2.
Lake Forest freshman Katie Wegrecki was the first to finish in singles and her 6-1, 6-2 triumph at #6 made the score 3-1. Wang added a 6-1, 6-3 victory at #5 and sophomore Julie Lord came back to win 0-6, 6-4, (12-10) at the top of the lineup to clinch the match for the Foresters. A tiebreaker also determined the winner at #2, where the Shorewomen earned their second point of the contest. Duba took the first set 6-1 and the second 6-2 at #3 and junior Leeza Bodnar closed out the match with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at #4.
The Foresters' win was their 13th in as many matches this year while Washington fell to 1-2.
Lake Forest will take on Nazareth University Monday morning at 8:30 (EST) at Hilton Head High School.
