Julie Lord Named Forester Athlete of the Week

Lake Forest College women's tennis player Julie Lord was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday after winning a pair of titles at the Midwest Conference Individual Tournaments over the weekend.

Lord and junior Leeza Bodnar started the weekend on Saturday by capturing the championship at #1 doubles for the second straight season. They dropped just one game in the tournament, blanking the top team from Lawrence University 8-0 in the quarterfinals, posting an 8-1 victory against their counterparts from St. Norbert College in the semifinals, and rolling to another 8-0 triumph against Cornell College in the championship. They finished the fall portion of the 2017-18 season with a 12-1 record with their only loss coming at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Tournament.

The singes brackets were played out on Sunday and Lord began the day as the #2 seed at the top spot in the lineup. However, the sophomore staked her claim as the best player in the league in convincing fashion, dropping just one game in each of her first two matches before avenging her only loss during regular season league play 6-2, 6-3 against Grinnell College in the final. Lord is now 12-3 on the year in singles and 24-4 overall.

Lake Forest also claimed league titles at six of the other seven spots in the lineup, becoming the first conference team in 14 years to win eight of nine positional championships.
