Lake Forest College women's tennis player Allison Watts was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday for her performance in a pair of Midwest Conference victories at home on Saturday.
Watts, a senior, helped the Foresters win their first contest of the day 8-1 against Cornell College. Watts and sophomore Tyranny Miller took their #2 doubles match 8-1 and Watts won her first set 6-0 and the second 6-3 at #2 singles.
Lake Forest earned its seventh win of the season later in the day, prevailing 6-3 against Grinnell College. Watts and Miller edged out Grinnell's #2 tandem 8-6 as the home team swept the doubles competition. Watts' 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) triumph at #2 singles was the Foresters' fifth point of the match, which clinched the team's victory.
Cornell, Grinnell and Lake Forest each entered the day at 3-0 in conference play and Grinnell came in with a 24-match conference winning streak.
Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays. Watts, who has now earned the award twice in her career, was also selected as the Midwest Conference Performer of the Week on Tuesday.
