Lake Forest Prevails Twice for First 20-Win Season

Freshman Grace Gould raised her team-high singles win total to 24 as the Forester women's tennis team posted 7-2 victories over Marian University and North Park University on Saturday. The matches were originally scheduled to be played on campus but were moved indoors to the Four Lakes Athletic Club in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, due to weather.

Gould took both sets 6-1 at #4 singles against Marian and added a 6-2, 6-3 triumph over her counterpart from North Park to raise her singles record on the year to 24-2. She is now just two shy of the program's single-season wins record set by Christi Valicenti in 2015-16.

Lake Forest had just five available players on Saturday and were forced to forfeit points at #3 doubles and #6 singles. The team's other four players were each 4-0 in singles and doubles combined.

Freshman Julie Lord and sophomore Leeza Bodnar defeated the top doubles team from Marian 8-0 and blanked North Park's best 8-0. The same scores occurred in the opposite order for junior Allison Watts and freshman Tyranny Miller at #2.

Lord and Bodnar did not lose a game in 6-0, 6-0 sweeps of Marian at #1 and #3, respectively, while Watts matched Gould's 6-1, 6-1 win at #2 and Miller took both sets 6-3 at #5. The lineup was the same and the scores similar against North Park. Lord prevailed 6-3, 6-0 and Watts 6-0, 6-1. Bodnar rolled to a 6-1, 6-2 victory and Miller was even more efficient at 6-1, 6-1.

The Foresters increased their school record victory total to 20 against just two losses on the year. Marian fell to 9-7 and North Park to 3-13.

Lake Forest will play a pair of contests at Augustana College next Sunday. The team's match against the host school will begin at 9:00 a.m. and the Foresters will take on Central College at noon.
