Lake Forest College women's tennis player Leeza Bodnar was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday for her performance at the Midwest Conference Individual Tournaments over the weekend.
Bodnar, a sophomore, captured a conference title with freshman Julie Lord at #1 doubles. They entered the tournament as the #2 seed and posted an 8-2 victory over the top tandem from Beloit College in the quarterfinals. They added an 8-4 triumph over league champion Grinnell College in the semifinals, setting up a rematch with the top-seeded duo from Cornell, who gave Bodnar and Lord their only loss at #1 doubles during the conference schedule. The Foresters' best doubles team avenged that defeat with an 8-5 triumph in the championship on Saturday.
As the third-seeded player in Sunday's #3 singles tournament, Bodnar rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the quarterfinal round. She then upset the #2 seed from Cornell College 6-1, 6-4 in the semifinals before falling to the top seed from Grinnell 6-1, 6-4.
Bodnar finished the fall portion of the 2017-18 season with a 13-3 record in singles and a doubles mark of 12-6.
Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays.
