#1 Doubles Title Highlights Foresters' Day One at MWC Individual Tournaments

Freshman Julie Lord and sophomore Leeza Bodnar captured a Midwest Conference title at #1 doubles at the 2017 MWC Individual Tournaments in Madison, Wisconsin, on Saturday.

Lord and Bodnar were seeded second in the bracket. They rolled to an 8-2 victory over the top tandem from Beloit College in the quarterfinals before doubling up the best from league champion Grinnell College 8-4 in the semifinals. Lake Forest's only loss at #1 doubles during the conference schedule was at Cornell College and Lord and Bodnar avenged that defeat with an 8-5 triumph in the championship match on Saturday.

Junior Allison Watts and freshman Tyranny Miller were the league's top-seeded team at #2 doubles and they blanked their counterparts from Beloit College 8-0 in the quarterfinal round. An 8-2 win over Cornell sent Watts and Miller to the final, where they were knocked off 8-4 by Grinnell. It was their first loss at #2 doubles this season.

Freshman Grace Gould and sophomore Sara Grosse lived up to their third seed at #3 doubles. They needed a 7-3 tiebreaker win against Knox College to advance to the semifinals, where they were eliminated 8-2 by the #2 seed from Grinnell.

The six positional singles tournaments will be played on Sunday and Forester players are seeded at or near the top in most of them.
