Foresters Post Convincing Victories over Lawrence and Ripon

The Lake Forest College women's tennis team hosted and defeated Lawrence University 8-1 and Ripon College 9-0 in Midwest Conference play on Saturday.

The home team started the day by taking all three of the doubles matches against Lawrence. Freshman Julie Lord and sophomore Leeza Bodnar did not drop a game at #1 while the score was 8-3 for junior Allison Watts and freshman Tyranny Miller at #2 and freshman Grace Gourd and sophomore Sara Grosse at #3.

Lord finished off a 6-0, 6-1 victory at #1 singles and Watts clinched the match for the Foresters with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph at #2. After Lawrence earned the point at #6, Bodnar won 6-2, 6-1 at #3, Miller prevailed 6-1, 6-2 at #4, and Gould closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at #5.

The scores were even more lopsided in the match against Ripon. Lord and Bodnar won 8-0 again at #1 doubles and Watts and Miller matched that score at #2. Gould and Grosse lost just two games at #3.

Watts swept her counterpart at #2 singles 6-0, 6-0, as did Lord at the top spot in the lineup. Miller blanked her opponent in the first set and won the second 6-2 at #4 while Bodnar nearly swept Ripon's #3 player, dropping just one game in the second set. Sophomore Samantha Russell rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at #6 and Gould was the last Forester out on the court once again, winning 6-2, 6-0.

Lake Forest improved to 8-1 overall this season and 4-1 in MWC play. Lawrence fell to 3-6 overall and 3-3 in the league while Ripon's overall record dropped to 3-7 and conference mark to 1-5.

The Foresters will host St. Norbert College Sunday morning at 9:00.
