Foresters Split Pair of 5-4 Decisions in Iowa

Junior Allison Watts was 4-0 on Saturday as the Lake Forest College women's tennis team fell 5-4 at Grinnell College before winning at Cornell College by the same score.

Watts and freshman Tyranny Miller finished off an 8-3 victory at Grinnell at #2 doubles shortly after freshman Julie Lord and sophomore Leeza Bodnar won by the same score at #1.

Trailing 2-1 after doubles, the Pioneers earned four consecutive points in singles play to clinch the match. Watts ended the run with a 6-3, 5-7, (10-5) triumph at #2 and freshman Grace Gould closed out the match with a 4-6, 6-4, (10-7) victory at #5.

Despite an 8-1 win by Watts and Miller at Cornell, the Foresters trailed 2-1 going into singles play.

Gould prevailed 6-0, 6-2 at #5 to tie the score and Watts gave the visitors the lead on her 6-2, 6-1 victory at #2. Miller took both sets 6-3 at #3 to pull the Foresters to within a point of securing the match and, after the Rams earned the point at #3, Lord completed a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 comeback win at the top spot in the lineup for the Forester victory.

Lake Forest is now 5-1 overall this season and 2-1 in Midwest Conference play. Grinnell improved to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the league while Cornell fell to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

The Foresters will remain in Iowa overnight and play at Coe College Sunday morning at 10:00.
