Foresters Post a Pair of Victories at Beloit

Freshman Julie Lord outscored her opponents 40-5 at the top of the singles and doubles lineups as the Lake Forest College women's tennis team defeated Wartburg College 8-1 before blanking host Beloit College 9-0 on Sunday.

Lord and sophomore Leeza Bodnar rolled to an 8-2 triumph over the top doubles team from Wartburg to start the day. Forester sophomore Samantha Russell partnered with freshman Grace Gould on an 8-3 victory at #3 and junior Allison Watts and freshman Tyranny Miller completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win at #2.

Lake Forest prevailed in five of the six singles matches, beginning with Lord by the score of 6-0, 6-2 at #1. Gould's 6-2, 6-3 victory at #5 clinched the match for the Foresters and Bodnar followed with a hard-fought 4-6, 6-2, (10-5) win at #3. After the Knights earned the point at #6 singles, Watts finished off a 6-2, 6-3 victory at #2 and Miller closed out the contest by winning 6-3, 6-4 at #4.

The loss was Wartburg's first in three matches this season.

Gould and Russell did not drop a game at #3 and were the first doubles team to finish against Beloit. Lord and Bodnar followed with an 8-1 victory and Watts and Miller swept their opponents at #2.

Gould won 6-0, 6-1 at #5 and Lord secured the win for Lake Forest with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 result at #1. Russell came out on top of a 6-1, 6-2 decision at #6 and Miller won 6-0, 6-2 at #4. Watts did not lose a game at #2 and Bodnar finished off the match with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at #3.

It was the first Midwest Conference match of the season for both teams. The Foresters are now 4-0 overall while the Buccaneers fell to 0-4.

Lake Forest will travel to Iowa for three contests next weekend. The team will play league matches at Grinnell College Saturday morning at 9:00 and Cornell College at 3:00 that afternoon before taking on Coe College on Sunday at 10:00 a.m.
