Foresters Split MWC Matches in Wisconsin

The Lake Forest College women's tennis team won 8-1 at Ripon College but were edged out 5-4 at St. Norbert College on Saturday. Senior Grace Dowling was one of four Foresters to go 3-1 on the day.

Dowling and fellow senior Christi Valicenti recorded their first victory in doubles at Ripon. They posted an 8-1 victory at #1 shortly after freshmen Billie Rodman and Allison Watts finished off an 8-0 blanking at #2. Senior Emily Rabin and freshman Tricia Paterakos came out on top of an 8-6 decision at #3 to make it a sweep of the doubles matches.

Dowling was the first Foresters to finish in singles after defeating her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at #3. Valicenti followed with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at #2 and Rabin matched Dowling's score at #6. Watts won 6-0, 6-2 at #4 and Rodman rolled 6-2, 6-0 at #1. The Red Hawks' only point of the contest came at #5 singles.

Lake Forest was swept in doubles at St. Norbert and the Green Knights clinched the victory with points at the bottom two spots in the singles lineup.

Rodman recorded a 6-0, 6-2 victory at #1 singles and Valicenti prevailed 6-3, 6-2 at #2. Dowling triumphed 7-5, 6-1 at #3 and Watts came from behind to win 2-6, 7-5, (10-2) at #4.

The Foresters are now 4-1 overall and 2-1 in Midwest Conference play this season. Ripon fell to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the league while St. Norbert raised its overall record to 3-1 and conference mark to 2-0.

Lake Forest will continue its weekend in Wisconsin with another MWC match at Lawrence University Sunday morning at 9:00.
