Foresters Finish Sixth in Warhawk Invitational

The Lake Forest College women's tennis team competed at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawk Invitational on Saturday and placed sixth out of eight teams. Senior Grace Dowling and freshman Allison Watts placed third in the #2 doubles draw.

Dowling and Watts defeated a tandem from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh 6-3, 6-1 before falling 6-1, 6-4 to the eventual runners-up from Augustana College in the semifinals. They earned their third-place finish by edging out a pair of players from Grinnell College 7-6 (7-2), 6-7 (2-7), (10-6).

Senior Christi Valicenti and freshman Billie Rodman were also victorious in the opening round of the #1 doubles draw. They defeated the top team from Grinnell 6-1, 6-3 before dropping matches to University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in the semifinals and Whitewater in the third-place match.

Lake Forest also earned points in the top two singles draws, where junior Zoe Maurer placed seventh at #1 and freshman Tricia Paterakos did the same at #2.

The Foresters finished the event with 10 points. Whitewater was first with 41, followed by Augustana (30.5), La Crosse (29), Carthage (20), and Grinnell (15).

Lake Forest will begin Midwest Conference play against visiting Beloit College on Wednesday. The match will begin at 3:30 p.m.
