Foresters Celebrate Senior Day with Victory over Wisconsin Lutheran

The Lake Forest College women's tennis team defeated visiting Wisconsin Lutheran College 9-0 on Tuesday. Forester senior Leslie Walton was honored before posting victories in both doubles and singles play in her final career home match.

After receiving her senior plaque from head coach Michael Raymond, Walton and Forester sophomore Elinor Chalmers blanked Wisconsin Lutheran's #3 doubles team 8-0. Lake Forest juniors Grace Dowling and Christi Valicenti followed with an 8-2 triumph at #1 and sophomores Lexi Chionis and Zoe Maurer added an 8-5 victory at #2.

Eight-game pro sets were also used to decide the six singles matches and Chionis' 8-0 win at #3 was the first to finish. Dowling and Chalmers prevailed 8-1 at the top and bottom of the lineup, respectively, and Valicenti came out on top of an 8-3 decision at #2. The final two matches on the courts featured Maurer at #5 and Walton at #4 and both players posted 8-1 victories.

The Foresters improved to 14-11 this season while the Warriors fell to 5-10.

Lake Forest will travel to Madison, Wisconsin, for the Midwest Conference Tournament on Friday. The Foresters' semifinal opponent will be league champion St. Norbert College and the winner will compete for the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with the winner of the other semifinal between Cornell College and Grinnell College.
