Foresters Drop a Pair of Matches at Carthage

The Lake Forest College women's tennis team was defeated 9-0 at Carthage College and 6-3 by Concordia University Wisconsin on Sunday. After nearly defeating the ninth-ranked doubles team in the region in the first match of the day, Forester juniors Grace Dowling and Christi Valicenti accounted for all of the team's points in the second.

Dowling and Valicenti were edged out 9-8 (7-5) at #1 doubles against Carthage and were also extremely competitive in singles. Dowling won the first set at #1 singles 6-3 but fell 7-5 in the second and 10-7 in the third set super-tiebreaker to the 20th-ranked player in the region. Valicenti took her #2 singles counterpart to a tiebreaker in the second set before falling 6-0, 7-6 (7-1).

The Foresters' #1 doubles team did not lose a game in an 8-0 triumph against Concordia Wisconsin. Dowling also went on to win 6-4, 6-1 at the top spot in the singles lineup while Valicenti prevailed 6-3, 6-2 at #2.

The losses dropped Lake Forest's record on the season to 13-10. Carthage, the 13th-ranked team in the region, is now 18-1 and Concordia Wisconsin improved to 11-8.

The Foresters will travel to Wheaton College on Wednesday for a 6:30 contest.
