The Lake Forest College women's tennis team defeated State University of New York Oneonta 7-2 on Thursday in Florida. Sophomore Lexi Chionis was one of three Foresters to win twice on the day.

Chionis and fellow sophomore Zoe Maurer finished off an 8-4 victory at #2 doubles just moments after juniors Christi Valicenti and Grace Dowling completed their 8-2 win at #1. SUNY Oneonta came out on top at #3.

Valicenti led 4-1 in the first set when her opponent at #1 singles was forced to retire. Chionis took both sets 6-1 at #3 and Dowling clinched the Foresters' victory with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at #2. Lake Forest added to its lead with a 6-2, 3-6, (10-6) triumph by senior Leslie Walton at #5 and a 6-4, 6-3 win at #6 by Elinor Chalmers.

Valicenti moved into first place in program history in two categories during the match. Her victory in doubles was the 53rd of her career, surpassing the previous mark set by Brittany Richardson in 2005. The triumph in singles gave her 99 career wins in singles and doubles combined, one more than the previous record set by Melika Celebic in 2013.

The Foresters are now 12-7 on the year while the Red Dragons fell to 5-11.

Lake Forest's next two matches will be played on Saturday, March 28, at Augustana College. The Foresters will take on Principia College at noon and Augustana at 3:00 p.m.
