Foresters Finish Fall Schedule at MWC Individual Championships

The Lake Forest College women's tennis team competed at the Midwest Conference Singles and Doubles Championships in Madison, Wisconsin, over the weekend. Highlighting Sunday's action for head coach Michael Raymond's Foresters was a runner-up finish for sophomore Lexi Chionis at #3 singles.

Chionis defeated her counterpart from Monmouth College 6-0, 6-1 before coming from behind for a 3-6, 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (6-2) victory over the #3 player from Grinnell College. She then fell 6-2, 6-1 against Cornell College in the final.

Forester junior Christi Valicenti prevailed 6-1, 6-2 in the quarterfinals at #1 while classmate Grace Dowling did not lose a game in a 6-0, 6-0 victory at #2. Valicenti finished the fall with 95 career wins in singles and doubles combined, tied for second in program history with Brittany Richardson (2002-05). Melika Celebic holds the team record with 98. Dowling earned the 76th victory of her career, which is tied for seventh in team annals.

Senior Gracie Mullins also advanced to the semifinals at #4 after posting a 6-2, 6-1 triumph in the quarterfinals. Sophomore Brittany Khayet won 6-1, 6-0 in the opening round at #5 before falling to the bracket's top seed in the quarterfinals. Junior Emily Rabin had an opening round bye and was defeated by the eventual runner-up in the quarterfinals.

Lake Forest completed the fall portion of its schedule with a 7-3 league record to qualify for the four-team MWC Tournament on April 24.
