Lake Forest Scores Third 9-0 Victory of the Weekend

The Forester women's tennis team blanked visiting Knox College 9-0 on Sunday. Sophomore Lexi Chionis was one of three Lake Forest players to post victories in both doubles and singles play.

Chionis and junior Christi Valicenti recorded an 8-3 victory over the Prairie Fire's top doubles team. Junior Grace Dowling and senior Gracie Mullins blanked their opponents 8-0 at #2 and junior Emily Rabin teamed with sophomore Zoe Maurer on an 8-4 triumph at #3.

The home team also swept the singles matches, beginning with a 6-1, 6-3 decision in favor of sophomore Brittany Khayet at #4. Dowling clinched the Lake Forest victory when she finished off a 6-0, 6-0 win at #2. Dowling did not lose a game to Knox in doubles or singles play. Valicenti prevailed 6-2, 6-3 at #1 and Chionis did not lose a game at #3. Senior Leslie Walton won 6-1, 6-0 at #5 and sophomore Elinor Chalmers posted a 6-0, 6-2 victory at #6 to close out the match.

Lake Forest, which also won 9-0 over Illinois College and Monmouth College on Sataurday, is now 10-2 overall and 7-1 in Midwest Conference play this season. Knox fell to 1-12 overall and 1-6 in the league.

The 2014-15 Foresters will close out the fall portion of their schedule in Iowa next weekend. Lake Forest will take on Grinnell College Saturday at 10:00 a.m. and Cornell College Sunday morning at 9:00.
