Foresters Split a Pair of Midwest Conference Matches

The Lake Forest College women's tennis team blanked visiting Ripon College 9-0 Saturday morning before falling 7-2 to St. Norbert College later in the day. Forester senior Leslie Walton did not surrender a game in doubles or singles against Ripon.

Walton and sophomore Brittany Khayet blanked their opponents 8-0 at #3 doubles for the first point of the match. Lake Forest junior Emily Rabin and sophomore Zoe Maurer followed with an 8-2 victory at #2 and junior Grace Dowling combined with senior Gracie Mullins on an 8-3 triumph at #1.

A pair of 6-0, 6-0 victories, one by Walton at #6 singles and another by Maurer at #5, clinched the match for the Foresters. Sophomore Lexi Chionis added another 6-0, 6-0 win at #2. Khayet won 6-0, 6-2 at #4, Mullins prevailed 6-0, 6-1 at #3, and junior Christi Valicenti came out on top of a 6-4, 6-1 decision at #1 to close out the match.

St. Norbert swept three three doubles matches in the Foresters' second contest of the day and the Green Knights added victories at the bottom three spots in the singles lineup and a narrow win at #1. Dowling earned Lake Forest's first point of the match with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at #2 and Chionis added a 3-6, 6-0, (10-3) victory at #3.

Lake Forest is now 5-2 overall this season and 2-1 in Midwest Conference play. Ripon fell to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in the league while St. Norbert improved to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in MWC contests.

The Foresters will also host league foe Lawrence University Sunday morning at 8:30.
