Lake Forest Posts a Pair of 8-1 Victories

The Forester women's tennis team defeated North Park University 8-1 and host Illinois Wesleyan University by the same score on Saturday. Lake Forest junior Emily Rabin won all three of her matches on the day.

Rabin and sophomore Zoe Maurer blanked their opponents 8-0 at #3 doubles in the team's victory over North Park. Forester junior Christi Valicenti and sophomore Lexi Chionis followed with an 8-6 triumph at #1 and Lake Forest led 2-1 after doubles play.

Sophomore Brittany Khayet, senior Leslie Walton, and Chionis did not lose a game in their 6-0, 6-0 victories at #5, #6, and #3 singles, respectively. With the match already clinched, senior Gracie Mullins added a sixth team point with her 6-1, 6-1 win at #4. Junior Grace Dowling split a pair of 6-2 sets at #2 before coming out on top of the third set super tiebreaker 10-5. Valicenti closed out the contest with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at the top spot in the lineup.

The Foresters swept the three doubles matches against Illinois Wesleyan. Rabin and Maurer prevailed 8-3 at #3, Dowling and Mullins won 8-4 at #2, and Valicenti and Chionis edged out the Titans' top tandem 9-8 (7-1).

Dowling and Chionis posted 6-1, 6-0 victories at #2 and #3 singles, respectively, giving Chionis the clinching point for the third time in as many matches. Khayet took both sets 6-1 at #5, Valicenti won 6-1, 6-0 at #1, and Rabin finished off her perfect day with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at #6.

Lake Forest is now 3-1 on the season. North Park fell to 1-3 and Illinois Wesleyan to 2-2.

The Foresters will travel to Beloit College for their Midwest Conference opener on Tuesday. The contest will begin at 4:00 p.m.
