The Lake Forest College women's tennis team was defeated 8-1 by Coe College Saturday morning but rebounded for a 5-2 triumph over Edgewood College in the evening. Forester sophomore Lexi Chionis won three of her four matches on the day.

After falling 6-2 in the first set, Chionis won 6-1 in the second and 10-4 in the third set super tiebreaker against the #3 singles player from Coe.

Chionis and junior Christi Valicenti gave the home team a 2-1 lead against Edgewood when they finished off a 9-7 triumph at the top spot in the lineup. The teams split 8-6 decisions in the other two doubles matches, including a victory by Forester sophomore Brittany Khayet and senior Leslie Walton at #3.

An Edgewood victory at #6 singles tied the score but a 6-0, 6-0 rout by Lake Forest senior Gracie Mullins at #4 put the home team ahead for good. Khayet prevailed 6-3, 6-4 at #5 and Chionis clinched the Forester victory with a 6-1, 6-2 win at #3. Playing eight-game pro sets, Valicenti led 6-3 at #1 and juinor Grace Dowling was ahead 5-2 at #2 when the match was called due to darkness.

Coe defeated Edgewood 9-0 in the early afternoon to start the season 2-0. Sunday's losses dropped Edgewood's record to 0-3.

Lake Forest will play a pair of matches at Illinois Wesleyan University next Saturday. After taking on North Park University at noon, the Foresters will play the hosts at 3:00 p.m.
