Foresters Fall 6-3 to Region's 17th-Ranked Team

The Lake Forest College women's tennis team was defeated 6-3 by visiting Augustana College, the 17th-ranked team in the region, on Friday. Forester freshman Lexi Chionis won twice and is now 5-1 in both singles and doubles this spring.

Chionis and sophomore Christi Valicenti gave the home team a 2-1 lead after battling for a 9-8 (7-5) triumph at #1 doubles. Augustana had won at #2 while Lake Forest sophomore Grace Dowling and senior Elina Shapiro were pulling out an 8-6 victory at #3.

The Forester lead did not last, however. The Vikings recorded wins at #3 and #6 singles before Chionis tied the score at three by prevailing 6-2, 6-4 at #4. Augustana posted a victory at #2, clinched the match with a three-set triumph at the top spot in the lineup, and added a sixth point at #5.

Lake Forest fell to 17-2 on the year while the Vikings raised their record to 17-4.

The Foresters are scheduled to play their final home match of the season against Wheaton College on Thursday. The contest will begin at 3:00 p.m.
