Lake Forest Routs Dominican 8-1

The Forester women's tennis team prevailed 8-1 at Dominican University on Sunday. Lake Forest senior Melika Celebic was one of five Lake Forest players to win twice on the day and she took over sole possession of first place in program history with 97 career victories.

Celebic and freshman Christi Valicenti posted an 8-2 victory at #1 doubles while juniors Aimee Fadden and Elina Shapiro won by the same score at #2. Sophomore Leslie Walton and senior Kaitlyn Martin finished off a Forester doubles sweep with an 8-3 triumph at #3.

Fadden was the first to add a second victory in the match when she finished off a 6-2, 6-0 win at #3 singles. Shapiro was next, prevailing 6-3, 6-4 at #4. Celebic and Valicenti did not surrender a game in their 6-0, 6-0 triumphs at #1 and #2, respecitvely, and, after the Stars earned a point at #5, Martin closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at #6.

Lake Forest is now 13-8 on the year while Dominican fell to 7-6.

Celebic entered the match tied with Brittany Richardson (2002-05) with 95 career singles and doubles wins combined. Celebic now has 49 singles triumps, just one shy of the school record held by Jackie Pieczkiewicz (1999-2002), and her 47 doubles victories trail only Richardson's 52 in team annals.

The first of two matches remaining on the Foresters' 2012-13 schedule will be played at Wheaton College at 6:30 Monday evening. The final career contest for Celebic and Martin will be Saturday's 1:00 p.m. home match against Illinois Wesleyan University.
