Foresters Edged Out by Mount Union in First Ever Spring Break Match

The Lake Forest College women's tennis team was defeated 5-4 by the University of Mount Union on Monday in Hilton Head, South Carolina. Forester freshman Christi Valicenti won twice to begin the first Spring Break trip in program history.

Valicenti and senior Melika Celebic ran their record on the year to 16-6 by defeating the Purple Raiders' #1 doubles team 8-4. It was Celebic's 89th career victory, moving her into sole possession of third place in team history. Mount Union won by the same score at each of the other two spots in the doubles lineup.

Lake Forest junior Elina Shapiro's 6-0, 6-3 victory at #5 singles evened the score at two but Mount Unoin regained the lead with a win at #6. Junior Aimee Fadden prevailed 6-0, 7-6 (7-5) at #3 to knot the match again but Raider triumphs at #1 and #4 sealed their victory. Valicenti finished off a 6-3, 6-2 decision at #2 to account for the final score.

The Foresters fell to 12-4 on the year and will be back in action Tuesday morning at 8:00 (EST) against Nazareth College. The Lake Forest and Nazareth men will also play at that time. Both contests will take place at Hilton Head Island Resort.
