Lake Forest Edges Out Lawrence, Routs Ripon

The Forester women's tennis team won 5-4 at Lawrence University and 8-1 at Ripon College on Saturday and is now 4-0 on the season. Junior Aimee Fadden's three-set victory at #5 singles clinched Lake Forest's win in the first match of the day.

Lawrence led 2-1 after doubles play with the lone Forester win coming at #3 where sophomore Gracie Mullins and freshman Grace Dowling prevailed 8-6.

Lake Forest senior Melika Celebic and freshman Christi Valicenti fell 8-6 at #1 doubles but came back to win at the top two spots in the singles lineup. Celebic posted a 6-0, 6-3 victory at #1 and Valicenti won 6-3 in both sets at #2. Dowling triumphed 6-2, 6-3 at #4 and the Foresters were ahead 4-3 with the final two matches on the court. Fadden won her first set 6-1 but fell 6-4 in the second. A 6-2 victory in the third gave the visitors their fifth point of the match to clinch the win.

After an hour drive from Appleton to Ripon, the Foresters posted a more convincing victory over the Red Hawks. Celebic and Valicenti blanked their opponents 8-0 at #1 doubles, Fadden and sophomore Lucy Cooper won 8-4 at #2, and Mullins and Dowling prevailed 8-3 at #3.

Celebic won both set 6-1 at #1 singles and Valicenti did not lose a game in a 6-0, 6-0 victory at #2, whice gave the Foresters a 5-0 lead to clinch the victory. Cooper came out on top of a 6-2, 6-1 decision at #6, Fadden won 6-1, 6-0 at #5, and Dowling capped off a perfect 4-0 day with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph at #4.

Lake Forest will play its next five matches at home, beginning with Thursday's 4:30 p.m. contest against Wisconsin Lutheran College.
