Women's Tennis Starts Off 2012-13 School Year With a Win

The Lake Forest College women's tennis team started off the 2012-13 school year with a 8-0 non-conference victory over Benedictine (Ill.) in the opening match for both teams on Thursday at Lake Forest College.

The Foresters (1-0), swept all five singles matches and all three doubles matches in the victory. Third singles player Gracie Mullins did not finish her second set due to darkness. Benedictine is now 0-1.

The victory also marked the return of senior Melika Celebic who studied abroad last year. She won her first singles match by scores of 6-1, 6-2 and teamed with freshman Christi Valicenti to win at first doubles 8-1. Valicenti won her second singles match by scores of 6-1, 6-2 as well.

Juniors Aimee Fadden and Lucy Cooper were victorious at second doubles by a score of 8-3 and Mullins and freshman Grace Dowling completed the sweep with a 8-5 win at third doubles.

In singles play, Dowling swept her opponent in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) at fourth singles while Fadden won at fifth singles by scores of 6-3, 7-5. Cooper completed singles play with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at sixth singles.

The Foresters are back in action on Friday, August 31 with a 5 p.m. match at St. Norbert.
