Late Penalty Kick Steals Forester Win

Senior midfielder Alyssa Xanos scored the sole Forester goal in the Lake Forest women's soccer's 1-1 tie against the University of Dubuque on Wednesday evening.

Xanos's goal was the first goal scored in the game, and it didn't come until well into second half. The Spartan defenders were able to clear the ball from their side of the field only to have Forester sophomore Krissy Kuwahara get in front of the ball and change its direction back down the field. After a few passes between her teammates, Xanos was passed the ball. She worked around a couple defenders and got a shot off, but it hit the back of a Dubuque player. Xanos regained possession. She moved the ball closer to the net. This time her shot found its mark in the upper right-hand side of the goal. The Foresters went up 1-0.

A little more than 10 minutes later, the Spartans evened the scored on a penalty kick, and the Foresters were unable to regain their lead.

Lake Forest is now 3-3-3 on the season. The University of Dubuque is 3-0-4.

The Foresters begin play against conference opponents on Saturday, September 24 against Lawrence University at 3:30 p.m.
