Foresters Score Four in Second Half, Defeat Bluejays 5-0

Senior forward Raven Dziedzinski scored three goals in the 36 minutes she was on the field in the Lake Forest women's soccer game against Elmhurst University on Monday evening. The Foresters defeated the Bluejays 5-0.

The first (and what would be game-winning) goal came off the foot of senior Iman Shepard with just under two minutes left to play in the first half. Freshman Caitlin Mulcahy cleared the ball from the Forester almost down to the Elmhurst box with Shepard chasing it down from the midfield line. The Elmhurst goalkeeper moved out of the goal to capture the ball but missed it when she slid to the ground. With multiple defenders around her, Shepard got possession and into the now empty net. It was her first of the season.

Freshman Anna Gracia scored the second goal of the game, and her third of the season, in the first six minutes of the second half. She also led the team in shots on goal with five during the game; the team, in total, had 17 shots on goal.

The last three goals scored in the game were all by Dziedzinski. Her first was a successful conversion of a penalty kick in the 74th minute of play after Shepard was fouled by one of Elmhurst's midfielders as they went after the ball. The Elmhurst goalkeeper moved with Dziedzinski's shot but the ball went right into the lefthand corner of the net, just out of the goalkeeper's outstretched hand. Dziedzinski's second came a few seconds less than seven minutes later, and the third was just over a minute after that.

Lake Forest are now 3-3-1 on the season. Elmhurst moved to 0-6-0.

The Foresters play again on Wednesday, September 21 at 7:00 p.m. at the University of Dubuque.
