Foresters Defeat Rams 1-0, Clinch a Spot in MWC Tournament

The Lake Forest College women's soccer team needed only one goal to bring down Cornell College on Saturday. With the win, Lake Forest clinched one of the four spots in the Midwest Conference Tournament.

The game-winning goal came early in the first half when the Foresters were able to get the ball through the defenders in the middle of the field. Junior Iman Shepard took the ball right in front of the goal, made a short pass to sophomore Ella Manthey, which drew the Cornell goalkeeper out of the net enough for Manthey to get the ball in for goal. This was Manthey's third goal of the season, and the first game-winning goal of her career.

Forester goalkeeper Maggie Kersting made nine saves on the day; this marks her ninth career shutout. With her 102 career saves so far, Kersting ranks ninth in the team's all-time top 10 rankings with at least four more games left in the Foresters' season. The Foresters out-shot the Rams 19-14.

Lake Forest now holds a 8-4-1 record overall and have a 5-0-1 conference record.

The Foresters will play again on Saturday, October 23 at 11:00 a.m. against Knox College.
