Hiwa Brown Named First Team All-MWC, Four Foresters on Second Team

The Midwest Conference announced the 2019 All-MWC Women's Soccer Teams on Friday. Lake Forest's Hiwa Brown was a first team selection while Sangjun Hornewer, Morgan Henrichs, Maggie Kersting, and Raven Dziedzinski were second team honorees.

Brown, a sophomore, anchored a defense that allowed a total of just eight goals in nine conference games and 24 in 19 contests overall. Lake Forest posted eight shutouts and limited six other opponents to a single goal during the season. Brown also contributed at the offensive end of the field with a goal and two assists. She was a Second Team All-MWC selection in 2018.

Hornewer led the league with 11 assists and the team with eight goals and 27 points. The senior had at least one point in 12 of 19 contests and either scored or assisted on half of the Foresters' 38 goals on the season.

Henrichs joined Brown on defense and helped lead a unit that allowed opponents to record fewer than five shots on goal per contest. The junior also had two goals and two assists on the year.

Kersting, a sophomore goalkeeper, returned from injury to start the Foresters' final eight games of the season. She held opponents scoreless in three of those starts and went 5-3 with a 1.20 goals against average.

Dziedzinski ranked second on the squad with seven goals, three assists, and 17 points. The freshman forward had a goal or assist in each of the first four games of her career and her three game-winning goals were tied with Hornewer for the team lead.

Lake Forest was 10-6-3 overall and finished fourth in the standings with a 5-2-2 record in conference play. The Foresters advanced to the four-team MWC Tournament for the 14th time in the last 17 years.

At least one Forester has earned all-conference honors every year since the program began in 1986. The five total selections this season are the team's most since 2015.
