Early Goal Dooms Foresters at MWC Tourney

The Lake Forest College women's soccer team was edged out 1-0 by host and league champion Knox College on Friday in the semifinals of the four-team Midwest Conference Tournament.

The Prairie Fire scored the only goal of the contest at the 9:20 mark.

The Foresters out-shot the home team 13-11 in the game and had a 9-6 advantage in shots on goal but were unable to get one past the Knox goalkeeper.

Lake Forest sophomore Maggie Kersting made five saves, including three in the second half.

Both teams created six corner kick opportunities and the Prairie Fire committed 17 fouls to the Foresters' 11.

Lake Forest's season ends with an overall record of 10-6-3 and the team was 5-2-2 in league play. Knox, which went 7-1-1 in the conference, advances to Saturday's tournament final against Monmouth College at 13-5-2.

It was the final career game for Forester seniors Lexi Vargas, Sangjun Hornewer, and Natalie Dixon.
