3-0 Triumph at Beloit is Foresters' Fifth Straight Shutout

Junior defenders Riley Medley and Maria Perkkio each scored her first career goal Tuesday in Lake Forest's 3-0 victory at Beloit College.

The Foresters had not played a game in nine days and were unable to score in the first half, despite out-shooting the Buccaneers 7-1 in the period.

The visitors caught fire in the second half, however, finding the back of the net three times in a 13-minute span. The first came from sophomore Julia Larson at the 57:24 mark after a pair of passes up the middle of the field by sophomore Hiwa Brown and freshman Raven Dziedzinski.

Perkkio kicked in a well-placed cross from junior Cassidy Hoyt at 67:32 and Medley headed in a corner kick from senior Sangjun Hornewer three minutes later to finish off the scoring spree.

Lake Forest had a 16-3 advantage in shots in the contest and Forester sophomore goalkeeper Maggie Kersting needed to make just one save to earn the shutout in her season debut.

It was the Foresters' fifth consecutive shutout, the program's longest such streak since blanking eight opponents in a row in 1995.

The victory improved their overall record to 6-3-3 and Midwest Conference mark to 1-0-2. Beloit fell to 1-10-0 overall and 0-4-0 in the league.

Lake Forest will continue conference play Saturday afternoon against visiting St. Norbert College. The contest will begin at 1:00 p.m.
