Maggie Kersting Named MWC Defensive Performer of the Week

Lake Forest College women's soccer player Maggie Kersting was named Midwest Conference Defensive Performer of the Week on Monday after posting a pair of shutouts over the weekend.

Kersting and the rest of the Foresters hosted and defeated Monmouth College 3-0 on Saturday. The freshman goalkeeper recorded one save in the first half and two in the second to keep the Fighting Scots off the scoreboard and earn her first career victory. The home team took the lead at the 31:57 mark and added a pair of insurance goals in the final six minutes of the contest.

Lake Forest took on Knox College, the top team in the league standings, on Sunday and came out on top of a 1-0 decision on a goal with just 2:24 remaining in the second half. Kersting made four saves in the opening period and six in the final 45 minutes to finish off a perfect weekend. Her 10 saves are the most by a Forester goalie in a shutout effort in more than five years.

Kersting, who missed a large portion of the season due to injury, is now 2-1-0 with a .905 save percentage and 0.57 goals against average in four appearances this year.

MWC Performers of the Week are selected by the league office.
