Lake Forest Blanks Lawrence 7-0

Sophomore Emma Byrne was one of seven players to score in the Forester women's soccer team's 7-0 victory over visiting Lawrence University on Sunday.

Byrne accounted for the only goal of the second half with just 2:56 to play in the contest. Her second goal of the season was assisted by senior Mimi Vaintrub.

The Foresters led 6-0 at halftime. The scoring barrage started with freshman Cassidy Hoyt's team-high seventh goal of the year at the 5:19 mark. Junior Kasey Kraus assisted on the score.

Senior Kayla Wuest scored to double the home team's lead in the 10th minute with junior Molly Major picking up an assist.

Kraus scored her first goal of the year at 13:16 off a pass from junior Charlotte Jackson. Kraus then recorded her career-high fourth point of the contest by assisting Jackson just 75 seconds later. It was Jackson's second goal of 2017.

Hoyt set up sophomore Sangjun Hornewer in the 20th minute and Vaintrub closed out the first half scoring off a pass from sophomore Natalie Dixon at 28:29. Hornewer and Vaintrub each has two goals on the season. 

The Foresters outshot the Vikings 13-2 and had nine corner kicks in the first half. The home team had a 9-1 advantage in shots in the game's final 45 minutes with seven more corner kick chances in the period.

Lake Forest's goalkeepers split the game with senior Caroline Campbell keeping the visitors off the scoreboard in the first half and freshman Paige Thiel in the second.

The Foresters are now 4-7-0 overall this season and 2-1-0 in Midwest Conference play. Lawrence fell to 1-9-0 overall and 0-3-0 in the league.
