Freshman Emma Byrne scored the game-tying goal late in the first half but the Lake Forest College women's soccer team's season came to an end during the shootout following the Foresters' 2-2 tie with Grinnell College at the Midwest Conference Tournament on Friday.

Lake Forest took the early lead at the 10:21 mark on senior Nina Perkkio's third goal of the season.

Grinnell tied the game on one penalty kick at 14:01 and took the lead on another at 23:29.

Byrne netted her fourth goal of the year at 35:08 and neither team was able to score the rest of the way.

The Foresters and Pioneers each attempted five shots in the game's first 45 minutes and Grinnell had a 5-3 advantage in that category in the second half. The home team added a shot in each of the overtime periods while Lake Forest went without one in the first extra frame before tallying two shots in the second.

Grinnell converted all five penalty kicks while the visitors made three of four in the shootout.

Forester senior Rachel Tenuta made two saves in each half and one in each of the overtimes. Her first save of the day was also the 200th of her career and she finished seventh in team history at 205.

Lake Forest completed the season with a 10-7-2 overall record. Grinnell is now 9-6-3 and will face MWC champion and tournament host Knox College in the final at 2:00 Saturday afternoon.
