Lake Forest Defeats St. Norbert 3-0, Extends Winning Streak to 14 Games

The Forester women's soccer team prevailed 3-0 at St. Norbert College on Saturday. All three goals were scored by junior Michelle Greeneway and assisted by classmate Sam Hillis.

After a scoreless first half, Greeneway netted her first goal of the day just 77 seconds into the second. Hillis sent a corner kick from the right side over the St. Norbert defense and Greeneway headed it in just inside the far post.

The visitors doubled their lead at the 76:52 mark when a free kick by Hillis from nearly 40 yards out on the left side found Greeneway, who kicked it into the left side of the goal from 15 yards away.

The final goal of the contest was another corner kick conversion from the right side with just 38 seconds remaining in the contest. Greeneway headed it into the nearly the same spot in the goal as her other two scores to complete her second hat trick of the season and eighth of her career. She now has 20 goals and 41 points on the year and is just one point shy of the program's career record of 142 set by Melissa Stevenson in 2005. It was the second three-assist game in the last four contests for Hillis, whose 12 helpers this season is tied with current assistant coach Kristen Fink for eighth in team history. Her 26 career assists rank tied-for-fifth in team annals.

Lake Forest out-shot St. Norbert 9-2 in the first half and 17-5 over the final 45 minutes. The visitors also had an 8-2 advantage in corner kick opportunities in the contest.

Six of the Green Knights' seven shots in the game were on target but saved by Forester sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Tenuta, who inproved to 10-0-0 with a 0.90 goals against average this season. It was her third shutout of the season and sixth of her career.

Lake Forest is now 14-0-0 on the year with six of the victories coming in Midwest Conference play. The Foresters are ranked 18th in the nation in the latest D3soccer.com poll. St. Norbert fell to 4-8-0 overall and 2-2-0 in the league.

The Foresters will continue conference play at Beloit College on Wednesday. The game will begin at 4:00 p.m.
