Foresters Defeat Mount St. Joseph at "Battle on the Border"

The Lake Forest College women's soccer team held on for a 2-1 victory over the College of Mount St. Joseph Sunday afternoon. The game was played at Carthage College as part of the "Battle on the Border." Forester freshman Kyle Chavarria's first career goal was the official game-winner.

Chavarria's unassisted score with 3:40 remaining in the first half gave the Foresters a 2-0 lead. Sophomore Holly Lesperance had put Lake Forest ahead on her second goal of the year just 67 seconds into the contest.

The Foresters had a 9-0 advantage in shots during the first half and both teams had four shot attempts in the second.

The Lions scored their only goal with 15 minutes remaining in the game.

Lake Forest freshman goalkeeper Rachel Tenuta held Mount St. Joseph scoreless for the first 45 minutes and classmate Caroline Kirsch made one save in the second half to help preserve the victory.

The Foresters are now 5-2-0 on the season while the Lions fell to 1-7-0.

Lake Forest will open Midwest Conference play in Iowa next weekend. The Foresters will play at Grinnell College on Saturday and Cornell College on Sunday. Both contests will begin at 11:00 a.m.
