Foresters Suffer First MWC Loss at Monmouth College

The Lake Forest College women's soccer team was defeated 3-1 at Monmouth College on Saturday and fell to 11-5-1 overall and 7-1-1 in Midwest Conference play this season. Freshman Holly Lesperance scored the only goal of the game for the Foresters.

Lesperance's team-high-tying 13th goal of the season was scored with just 1:46 to play in the contest. Freshman Sam Hillis earned her fifth assist of the year on the goal.

Monmouth had started the scoring in the 31st minute and led 1-0 at halftime after outshooting the Foresters 11-6 in the first 45 minutes.

The Fighting Scots netted additional goals at 58:00 and 63:13.

Both teams attempted eight shots in the second half. The Foresters had nine corner kick opportunities in the final period and 13 to the Scots' one in the entire game.

Lake Forest senior goalkeeper Bri Schleibinger made 12 saves in the contest.

Monmouth is now 6-6-3 overall and 4-2-1 in conference play this season.

The Foresters will finish off the regular season at Illinois College tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. Lake Forest can clinch at least a share of the 2012 MWC championship with a victory and a St. Norbert College win or tie at Grinnell College.
