Lake Forest Begins MWC Play with 1-0 Triumph over Grinnell

The Forester women's soccer team hosted and defeated Grinnell College 1-0 on Saturday in the Midwest Conference opener for both teams. Lake Forest freshman Holly Lesperance scored the only goal of the contest.

The score by Leverance, her team-high fourth of the seasoon, gave the Foresters the lead in the ninth minute. Junior Becky Esrock earned the assist and is now tied with Jackie Berthiaume for fifth in program history with 85 career points.

Lake Forest outshot the visitors 4-3 in the first half and 8-4 in the second. The home team also had a slight 3-2 edge in corner kicks but committed 10 of the game's 17 fouls.

Forester senior Bri Schleibinger recorded five saves in the contest for her first shutout of the season and the 11th of her career.

Lake Forest is now 3-4-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the league for the 19th consecutive season. Grinnell fell to 0-4-1 overall and 0-1-0 in the conference.

The Foresters will continue MWC play tomorrow afternoon against visiting Cornell College. The first-ever meeting between the programs will begin at 1:00.
