Foresters Start Conference Play with 3-1 Victory at Beloit

The Lake Forest College women's soccer team won 3-1 at Beloit College on Thursday in the Midwest Conference opener for both teams. The Foresters are now 3-1-0 overall while the Buccaneers fell to 1-4-0. Junior Lisa Sorensen scored her seventh career game-winning goal.

Freshman Megan O'Connor, who netted the official game-winning goal in Lake Forest's first two victories this season, started the scoring on Thursday at the 30:16 mark. Sophomore Courtenay Raymond assisted on O'Connor's third goal of the season. The Foresters out-shot the home team 9-5 in the first 45 minutes and led 1-0 at halftime.

Sorensen converted on a penalty kick opportunity at the 60:18 mark but her second goal of 2011 was followed up just five minutes later by a penalty goal by Beloit. Lake Forest regained its two-goal advantage when Raymond scored for the the second time this season with 21:11 to play in the contest. The Foresters had an 11-5 advantage on shots in the second half and held on for the 3-1 triumph.

Lake Forest junior goalkeeper Bri Schleibinger recorded three saves in each half to earn the victory and lower her goals against average on the year to 1.05.

The Foresters' next contest will be a non-conference game at Eureka College Saturday afternoon at 1:00.
