Lake Forest Blanks Wisconsin Lutheran in Season Opener

The Forester women's soccer team began its 2011 season with a 4-0 victory over visiting Wisconsin Lutheran College on Thursday. Sophomore Courtenay Raymond assisted on the second goal of the game and scored the third.

Lake Forest out-shot the Warriors 12-1 in the first half but did not get on the scoreboard until the 33rd minute when freshman Megan O'Connor netted her first career goal with classmate Emily Keast picking up the assist.

Shots were 15-0 as the home team controlled the ball for the vast majority of the second half. Raymond and junior Lisa Sorensen assisted on senior Natasha Poulopoulos' first career goal at 56:25 to double the advantage. Raymond then shook a couple of defenders before blasting the ball past the Wisconsin Lutheran goalie at 70:38. Junior Hailey Schleibinger closed out the scoring at 82:45 off a pass from sophomore Lauren Morford.

Junior Bri Schleibinger started the game in goal and sophomore Maeve Connelly continued to hold the Warriors scoreless for the final 29:18 in her collegiate debut.

Lake Forest will have nine days before playing at Concordia University Wisconsin on Saturday, September 10. The contest will begin at 1:00 p.m.
