The Forester women's soccer team completed its 2009 regular
season 12-6-0 overall and 7-2-0 in Midwest Conference play after
winning 3-0 at Monmouth College on Sunday (November 1). The
season-ending loss dropped the Fighting Scots to 6-11-1 overall and
4-4-1 in the league.
A header by Lake Forest junior Emily Weber
(Cincinnati, Ohio/Seven Hills Upper School) off a corner kick by
classmate Bianca
Greene (Santa Monica, Calif./Santa Monica) accounted for the
only goal of the first half. Monmouth actually out-shot the
Foresters 6-5 in the period.
Lake Forest had an 8-4 advantage in shots in the second half. The
visitors doubled their lead two minutes and 10 seconds into the
period on Lisa
Sorensen's (Muskegon, Mich./Western Michigan Christian) 13th
goal of the year. Weber headed in another corner kick from Greene
at 52:20 to close out the scoring. It was Weber's third goal of the
season and Greene's 15th assist, the second-most in team history
behind Melissa Stevenson's 17 in 2003.
For the second day in a row, freshman goalkeeper Bri
Schleibinger (Spring Grove, Ill./Richmond Burton) made a pair
of saves to record the shutout, her fifth of the season. Her goals
against average on the year dropped to 1.45.
The Foresters will be the #3 seed in next weekend's (November 6-7)
MWC Tournament at Carroll University. Lake Forest will take on St.
Norbert College, the #2 seed, in the semifinals Friday at 4:00 p.m.
The winner will advance to Saturday's 7:00 p.m. final.
