Sonja Novak

The 2018-19 season will be the first for Sonja Novak at the College. A former colleague of Wilson, she will be primarily involved with the defense, recruiting efforts, fundraising, and camp development.

Novak spent the 2017-18 season as the head coach of the Robert Morris University ACHA team. The Eagles went 9-17-0 on the season, advancing to the CCWHA playoffs. She also worked as an assistant with the Fenwick High School girls program and continued her involvement with Team Illinois U19 AAA.

A 2008 graduate of NCAA Division I Princeton University, Novak completed her education with a bachelor’s degree in English. She played in 120 games for the Tigers, captured an Ivy League title, and was an ECACHL Student-Athlete all four years.

Novak went on to play internationally, skating for the Czech National Team as an assistant captain from 2010-13, winning back-to-back International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Division World titles (Division II, Caen, France 2011; Division IA, Ventspils, Latvia 2012) and playing in Olympic qualifiers. She also had successful careers with numerous teams in the Swiss Professional League, most noately DHC Langenthal and EV Bomo Thun, and won a Swiss Regio League bronze title.

A native of Illinois, Novak resides in Oak Park.
