    Assistant Coach

The 2015-16 season is Jamie Sauer’s third on the coaching staff at her alma mater. She works primarily with the team’s defensemen.

Sauer has helped lead the Foresters to a 31-15-6 overall record and a mark of 24-8-4 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play in her two years on staff. Lake Forest captured NCHA regular season and tournament (Slaats Cup) titles and made the program’s first appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament in 2013-14. The team repeated as Slaats Cup champions and NCAA Tournament qualifiers last year.

Under Sauer’s direction, Lake Forest defensemen have tallied nearly 100 points over the last two years. Alex Stensland was named All-NCHA and Second Team West All-American after the 2013-14 season. Stensland and Kayla Griffith were All-NCHA selections in 2014-15 and Griffith was also named to the NCHA All-Freshman Team.

Sauer played in more than 100 games for the Foresters from 2006-10 and finished her career with 35 points on four goals and 31 assists. The defenseman and two-year team captain was an Honorable Mention All-Northern Collegiate Hockey Association selection as a junior before earning First Team honors her senior season. She was also voted Lake Forest’s Most Valuable Player as a junior and senior and was the first recipient of the annual Ry McCarthy Award.

After graduating from the College in 2010, Sauer participated in a pair of Americorps volunteer programs, where she served 1,700 hours each with the Nevada Conservation Corps and Montana Conservation Corps. During the second program she participated in a 30-day deployment for Hurrican Sandy Disaster Relief where she helped organize an evacuation shelter, distributed supplies to the community, and canvassed for needs in affected neighborhoods. She was then a crew leader with the Southwest Conservation Corps, where she trained military veterans to be able to receive wildland fire fighter training and chainsaw and conservation experience to assist them in transitioning into a civilian job market.
