The Forester women's hockey team hosted and defeated Lawrence University 8-0 Saturday night in the opener of their weekend series.

After taking a 1-0 lead into the locker room at the first intermission, thanks to senior forward Samantha Shoebottom's team-high 11th goal this year, the home team broke through for five scores in the next 20 minutes. It was Lake Forest's highest-scoring period since a five-goal first against Finlandia University in January of 2020.

Freshman forward Macy Gehrke, who entered the game with one goal on the year, accounted for two of the five scores in the period. Sophomore defenseman Abby Meyer struck for the fourth time this season, junior forward Danielle Selby netted her fifth, and senior forward Marissa Gebauer's seventh made the score 6-0 when the buzzer sounded.

Senior forward Kelly McCullough added her first goal this winter and junior forward Caitlin Dahut her second in the final period.

Sophomore defenseman Sophia Chapman assisted on three of the scores while Selby and senior defenseman Karya Dean set up two.

The Foresters outshot their guests 75-17 and senior goaltender Hannah Turnage kept the Vikings off the scoreboard for her fifth career shutout.

Lake Forest improved to 10-7-3 and climbed into fourth place in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association standings at 5-4-2 in the league. Lawrence fell to 3-17-0 overall and 2-9-0 in conference play.

The teams will face off again at Lawrence Sunday afternoon at 3:00.
