Forester Firsts for Fowler and Post in Victory at Trine

The Lake Forest College women's hockey team posted a 2-0 victory at Trine University Wednesday night.

The triumph was highlighted by the first career victory and shutout for sophomore goaltender Donna Fowler and the first career goal for freshman forward Zara Post.

Post broke a scoreless tie with a power play tally 91 seconds into the second period. She gained control of the puck in the corner, skated to the top of the right circle, and blasted a shot into the left side of the goal.

The Foresters added to their lead later in the period when Emma Sweeney, another freshman forward, netted her third score of the season. Sophomore defenseman Abby Meyer's shot from the top of the right circle was saved but not controlled by the Trine goaltender and Sweeney was there to put in the rebound at the 8:54 mark.

The pair of tallies was more than enough for Fowler, who made a dozen saves in the opening period and a career-high 21 in the contest.

Lake Forest out-shot the home team 52-21, posted consecutive shutouts for the first time in nearly three years, and improved to 7-4-2 on the season. The loss dropped Trine's record to 4-8-0.

The Foresters will resume Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play against Concordia University Wisconsin this weekend. The annual "Border Battle" will begin in Lake Forest's Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse Friday night at 7:00 and continue in Mequon, Wisconsin, at the same time on Saturday.
