Foresters Score Season-High Seven Goals in Shutout of Northland

The Lake Forest College women's hockey team blanked Northland College 7-0 on the road Friday night. It was the first of three games for the Foresters this weekend.

Sophomore defenseman Abby Meyer entered the night without any points on the season but left Bay Area Civic Center with three, beginning with the official game-winning goal at 9:06 in the opening period. She also helped set up senior forward Marissa Gebauer in the final minute of the period, giving the visitors a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes of action. Freshman forward Zaria Post also earned an assist on the play for her first career point.

The scoring in the second period was very similar to the first. Shannon Gibbons netted her first career goal at the 8:09 mark and fellow freshman forward Emma Sweeney added another score with a minute remaining. Freshman defenseman Holly Kiernan had one of the assists on the Kiernan goal for her the first point of her career.

Forester senior goaltender Hannah Turnage was between the pipes for the first two periods and made four saves in each. Sophomore Donna Fowler finished off the shutout and made three saves in the final 20 minutes.

The Foresters tacked on three more goals in the third, the first by junior forward Danielle Selby just 16 seconds into the period. Meyer completed her three-point night with a tally at the 14:43 mark and junior defenseman Grace Garby closed out the scoring with 1:52 remaining.

Lake Forest improved to 3-3-1 while Northland fell to 2-8-1 on the year.

The Foresters will travel to Finlandia University for a pair of Northern Collegiate Hockey Association games this weekend. Saturday evening's contest will begin at 8:00 (ET) and Sunday's at 5:30 p.m. (ET).
