Foresters Drop Series Opener to #14 Aurora

The Lake Forest College women's hockey team was defeated 3-0 Friday afternoon by Aurora University, the 14th-ranked team in the nation.

Aurora had an 18-8 advantage in shots on goal in the opening period and took the lead at the 12:51 mark.

The Foresters outshot the visitors 20-9 in the second stanza but the Spartans added to their lead on a short-handed goal with 2:55 on the clock.

The final tally was a 5-on-3 power play goal that narrowly beat the game's final buzzer. Aurora put 21 shots on goal to Lake Forest's 13 in the final 20 minutes.

Forester senior goaltender Hannah Turnage finished with 45 saves for a .938 save percentage in the contest.

It was the first Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game of the season for Lake Forest, which fell to 2-3-0 overall. Aurora improved to 6-1-0 overall and 3-0-0 in the league.

The same two teams will face off again in Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon at 3:00.
